Research and Evaluation

The Ruth H. Young Center for Families and Children is committed to conducting research and program evaluations that build knowledge concerning the prevention, assessment, and treatment of child abuse and neglect. This includes the health and social problems that challenge the safety, health, and well-being of children, families, and communities and the protective factors that promote strength and resilience.

Implementation of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research designs is strengthened by interdisciplinary research teams.  Studies focus on the efficiency and effectiveness of child welfare programs such as the use of family team meetings, family assessment protocols, and adoption screening procedures; the process and outcomes of truancy courts, the costs associated with foster care, and the effectiveness of community and school based service programs. In addition faculty and staff conduct systematic reviews of the literature periodically.
