| Mary A. Allman has loved and felt privileged to be a professional Social Worker for 34 years. Before and after getting a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola College of Baltimore, Mary worked in residential care for adolescent girls, and as a Probation Agent. After getting her MSW from Catholic University, Mary started her Child Welfare Work in Montgomery County, and Child Protective Services became her first and enduring love. From investigating reports of child abuse and neglect, to providing on-going services to CPS children and families, to supervising other CPS social workers and administrating the screening and assessment functions in the CPS program in Montgomery County, Mary spent 14 productive years learning from her clients and her colleagues. Mary then moved to the National Resource Center on Child Sexual Abuse; later to the Clinical Director position at a non-profit mental health agency specializing in the treatment of sexual abuse survivors, families, and court referred offenders. Mary then moved on to work with students with emotional disabilities and their families in the Montgomery County Public Schools. Mary feels her experience in the criminal justice, child welfare, mental health, and education systems have greatly enhanced her ability to assist children and families to access, negotiate, and productively use these various systems for self and family empowerment. Mary is currently an Adjunct Liaison at the University of Maryland School of Social Work, and also works in the Title IV-E Education for Public Child Welfare Program, helping to educate and train the next generation of public child welfare social workers who will provide Child Protective Service, Foster Care, Adoption, and Family Preservation Services in the State of Maryland. Mary continues to advocate in her home community for Child Welfare Services, post adoption services, and educational and mental health services for special needs children and adolescents, and their families. |
