| Michael A. Lindsey, PhD, MSW, MPH is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work and the School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. He received a Ph.D. and M.P.H. from University of Pittsburgh, a M.S.W. from Howard University, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Lindsey’s research agenda focuses on the issue of mental health service delivery to vulnerable and/or underserved youth. In particular, he examines: 1) social network influences on help-seeking behaviors and mental health service use among urban youth with depression; 2) factors that predict arrival status and civil commitment among youth who access psychiatric emergency services; 3) negative family environment and social network influences on child mental health need and service use; and 4) behavioral determinants of youth and family engagement in school and community-based mental health services. Dr. Lindsey’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters on these topics. He has also been funded by National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and the State of Maryland to lead investigations in these areas. Currently, Dr. Lindsey is the principal investigator leading a state-wide evaluation of a family-based intervention to improve family functioning and child outcomes among children at-risk for out-of-home placement in the state of Maryland. Dr. Lindsey has over ten years of clinical practice experience, serving youth and families in Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, and Pittsburgh, PA. These experiences underlie many of the investigations he has led concerning mental health service use among youth and families, and how best to develop and target interventions to improve their engagement and access to services. |
