Child Welfare Academy Mission, Vision, and Goals

Mission
The Academy will develop, educate, train, and support Maryland’s child welfare staff, supervisors; administrators; foster parents; and kinship caregivers to provide family centered; culturally competent services to protect children from maltreatment, achieve permanency, and promote child well-being.

Vision
The vision of the Academy is an educated and trained child welfare workforce that enhances safety, permanency, and well-being outcomes for Maryland’s children and their families.

Goals

  1. To train a workforce that is proficient in child welfare competencies that are comprehensive, outcome-based, current and pertinent to Maryland’s children and their families.
  2. To prepare caregivers to effectively parent children served by Maryland’s Departments of Social Services.
  3. To evaluate the effectiveness of the Academy’s education and training components through an ongoing collaborative planning and management process.
