ABSTRACT: The Contextual Analysis Project seeks to enhance the Maryland courts’ understanding of the broader context in which truancy intervention programs that involve courts and judges operate. Researchers will review the state context, including legislation and policy that may impact truancy and the operation of the programs. While the review will focus primarily on Baltimore City and the Eastern Shore, it will also gather information on other locations to assess the context for truancy and truancy prevention programs statewide. This will offer a comparative perspective as well as an opportunity to disseminate information on different approaches that may be suited to different jurisdictions. As a member of the Maryland Judiciary Research Consortium, the Institute for Government Services and Research at the University of Maryland College Park is a collaborating partner on this project. Input into research activities will also come from a research advisory committee comprised of individuals with content and methodological expertise.
